Volunteer Week - James

Published on June 03, 2019

My name is James and I’m a volunteer team leader at one of our Foodbank distribution points. It's a rewarding role that is quite frantic, always busy and can get physical with moving equipment around.

I feel well looked after by the charity’s support workers or by the group of hard working volunteers around me during each session. We usually have around eight volunteers on the day and an embedded member of support from Stirling’s Citizen Advice Bureau. The team functions in a number of ways and each member has a specific role, but we all muck in when its required as we are the front line of the charity. It’s a great team we have and it works incredibly well as a unit, we are all from differing backgrounds and have differing ages. One thing in common is that we have a lot of energy and are positive and compassionate people.

Each session we’ll set up and put away the food distribution point and small café we run. Members of the team are either distributing food packs, running the fruit & veg stand, offering nutrition advice with recipe cards and ingredients, running the café or talking to our clients one to one within our listening service. If you can spare an hour on a Wednesday between 10:00 to 13:00 and want to help out we would love to hear from you.
